Welcome back to another episode of the Homegrown Liberty Podcast, this is episode 37.
This was recorded at the tail end of a 10 day consulting tour and I was exhausted, so I apologize if I’m a little off in this episode. I stopped at 2 locations in Arkansas, 3 in Missouri, 3 in Tennessee, and 3 in Alabama. 10 days, 11 stops. That was quite the trip! Everyone was excited to get a lot of direction on future projects, to get help in figuring out how to develop and establish systems of food production and water harvest. I already have some of those clients emailing me to ask to have me out in the spring to help them install ponds and other water catchment features.
But as usual, I digress. Back to the episode topic.. Today’s episode was recorded while I was on the road, I stopped in at my friend Ken’s homestead in Alabama and we got to talking about some deep stuff while sitting on the back porch and we both thought that we sure would like to share that discussion with the audience. So you’ll have to listen to the episode to get all the good stuff!
[CONVERSATION WITH NICK AND KEN]
Well guys, that was kind of a long episode but I really wanted to share the conversation about intentionality that Ken and I were having. It was really on my mind because that’s essentially the whole point of what I do when I do any consulting. I help my clients decide what their intentions are, and dispense with all the clutter and preconceived notions and self erected boundaries. Sure, I also help them decide where to place elements and specific design features, but in my mind, the single most important thing that I do to help my clients is that I help them get to the core thing that defines their journey. We identify what it is that drives them, and we establish a vision and a goal. A destination that they can work towards. From there, it’s fairly simple, and there are many ways to get there.
And that’s kind of what ken and I got into. The discussion of being intentional with our decisions, not letting life pass us by while just floating along with the crowd. Setting a course for your life and being deliberate with our actions. So we busted out some recording equipment and made an episode just so you guys could join in on the conversation. I hope it really makes you stop and think about your decisions. About where you are in life and where you are headed.
I encourage you to be intentional about the advice you give your children, and what you give your time and attention to. I don’t want to be one of those people who goes to school for 13 years, then college for 4 years so I can buy a big house and a new car, have the best new things, a big screen TV to waste hours of my life, so I can stand going to work at a job I hate, all so I can have that house, and car, and stuff… So I can one day retire, and start living the life I want to live. Don’t be one of those people. Make a difference in the world today. Be intentional about the decisions you make, and don’t be a slave to your stuff. You only have one life. Live it well. None of us are promised tomorrow. So don’t waste that time, decide for yourself what that life should be. But I would encourage you to build it in some way or fashion to be a blessing to others. That’s where you really live, when you know that you matter. When you have really made a difference in someone’s life.
Find someone to bless this week. Really think about how you spend your time and decide if the choices you have been making are really what is healthy, and desirable. It’s easy to fall into a rut and just satisfy the lusts of your flesh in consuming hollow, vapid entertainment. Nobody ever laid on their deathbed and said “I wish I had watched more movies”. Make memories, live a real life. Be intentional.
Until next week
I hope you have a wonderful day, God Bless. And as always “Go Do Good Things”
Nick,
Wow….what a great topic to cover as the growing season winds down and we homesteaders can take stock of our accomplishments, setbacks, and future plans. Thank you for bringing many ideas about homesteading to the podcast listeners. We appreciate your efforts. Congrats too for be chosen as a speaker for Redeeming the Dirt. A speaker at the same venue as Joel Salatin…what an opportunity.
Have a blessed day,
JR
I know! I’m really excited to be a part of the conference. I imagine I’ll learn more than I’ll teach but still happy to contribute whatever I can!
